New data can be collected and saved in several different ways. Ideally, this would be done with an application that includes fields with the data that you need to have in your database and then automatically transfers the data you collect including latitude and longitude coordinates into the database. There are commercial products that provides all this functionality, but they are either expensive or complicated and involved to use, or both. However, Google My Maps can do it quite well with some work arounds.
