The MHS Winter Guard is a thriving group of students with a national reputation. In 2024 and 2025, the team earned 4th place at the Rocky Mountain Color Guard State Competition in the Scholastic A Division. The team earned 3rd place in the 2020 WGI Salt Lake City regional competition.

Winter Guard is an indoor color guard activity, where students continue to develop their skill in dance and equipment (flag, sabre, and rifle). Unlike traditional color guard, Winter Guard is performed indoors, usually in a gymnasium or in an indoor arena. This is usually the same group of students that performs with our award-winning marching band. Students will learn and compete with an indoor show that will be performed several times throughout the spring semester.
