A day in the Life of a Teacher

In today’s society, you will always find interesting commentary, news, articles, research studies, and political debates about teachers and the teaching profession. So much goes into preparing lessons and instructing students for the real world. After graduation, students go on to use what they learned in college, technical school, the military, and their chosen job professions. Let’s look into the work done by a teacher before and after school just to get an idea of their life.

Mr. Bernard is an Algebra and Geometry teacher here at Mary Persons High School! He is married and has a baby girl named Olivia. When interviewed, Mr. Bernard said the first thing he does in the morning when he wakes up is check his phone to make sure he didn’t miss anything. He wakes up at 6:15, if his baby doesn’t wake him up first. Mr. Bernard says he gets to school at 7:20. He teaches 49 students throughout the day in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. He does his duties, such as checking emails and his lesson plans. After school and during his planning, he grades papers for 4 hours every week.

It is important to keep students alert in high school, the most important years before graduation. Mr. Bernard says he keeps his students alert and awake by telling stories about his life and doing around-the-room activities. Mr. Bernard has wanted to be a Math Teacher since his early high school years. He likes teaching high school students because he likes getting to know his students and building relationships with them.

When asked who his role model were in the teaching profession, Mr. Bernard said that his role models are Mr. Magda, because he can talk about anything and make it interesting, and Mrs. Barber, because of her tenacity and never giving up! Mr. Bernard goes home around 4:30 every day except when he stays later for Academic Team Practice and things like homecoming planning. He enjoys after-school activities including running, tennis, hosting trivia, and playing with his baby girl, Olivia. After a busy day of being a high school math teacher, he goes to bed at 11:30 and wakes up the next day with a smile on his face!
