Walt Whitman High School

Counseling Department

Congratulations, Whitman Class of 2020!

In lieu of the traditional May 1 College T-Shirt Day, students displayed their college T-shirts at home and members of the counseling department & volunteers drove around and took photos. We are so proud of Whitman's Class of 2020!

In light of COVID-19, we want to take every opportunity to celebrate our senior class. We are so proud of our Class of 2020 and all they have accomplished this year. As part of the College Signing day events, we would like to recognize our students district-wide. From May 14th to May 22nd, we’re celebrating our seniors on social media. During that time, staff are encouraged to share messages and best wishes to seniors on Twitter through short videos or photos.

Additionally, students are encouraged to share short videos or photos about their future plans — for instance, attending college, taking up a trade or apprenticeship, entering the military or going into the workforce.

Be sure to use the hashtag #MCPSClassOf2020. Would you prefer to email a video or photo? Send it to pio@mcpsmd.org

As the counseling department at Whitman, WE BELIEVE….

> Each student has the power to write their own story, create their own dream, and live their own narrative.

> All students can learn and succeed with appropriate supports.

> Counselors should foster grit and resilience in all of our students.

> All students should have the opportunity to develop the skills for self-care, balance, and wellness.

> Our school environment is strongest when students, staff, and community members stand for equity, exhibit kindness, act with civility, and live with compassion.

The counseling department’s mission is to create an environment where success is celebrated & failure is embraced as a means to grow.
