For the 2026–2027 school year, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will cover the full cost of Advanced Placement (AP) exams in alignment with the Maryland Blueprint and the MCPS Strategic Plan. Students who are actively enrolled in an AP course and complete their AP exam registration by November 6, 2026, will not be charged an exam fee. All students enrolled in an AP course are expected to take the corresponding AP exam in May 2027. 

To register for AP exams:

• Go directly to https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/.

• Use the myAP Classroom “Join Code” provided by each of your AP teachers to enroll in the corresponding AP course(s) through your College Board myAP account.

• After joining each AP Classroom, complete the required registration questions and change your AP exam registration status from “Undecided” to “Yes” to officially register for the corresponding exam during the May 2027 testing window.

• If you un-enroll from an AP course within MCPS and no longer plan to take the corresponding AP exam, you must also log in to your College Board My AP account and change your exam registration status to “No.” 

  • This change must be completed before the applicable registration deadline windows to avoid potential College Board registration or cancellation fees.

• Students are expected to register for and take the corresponding AP exam for every AP course in which they are enrolled.

Please be aware of the following fee-related policies:

• Late Registration: Students who register between Monday, November 16th, 2026 and Friday, March 5th, 2027 will be responsible for a $40.25 late fee. 

• No-Show Fee: If a student does not show up for the scheduled AP exam, a fee of $40.25 will be charged to cover the cost of the unused exam.

• Late Drop Fee: If a student decides to drop their AP exam after Monday, November 16th, 2026 a fee of $40.25 will be assessed to cover administrative costs from the College Board.

• Retaking an Exam:  If a student is retaking an AP exam from a previous year, they are responsible for a fee of $99.25 that will cover administrative costs. 

• Not enrolled in Corresponding AP Course: Students who elect to take an AP exam and are not enrolled in the corresponding AP course MUST complete the AP Exam Registration (Not Enrolled in AP course) form. These students will be responsible for paying a fee of $99.25 that will cover the AP exam.  

The 2027 AP Exams will be administered over two weeks in May: 

• Week # 1 - May 3–7

• Week #2 - May 10- 14 

*Note - All students should arrive no later than 7:30 am for the morning exams and no later than 11:30 am for the early afternoon exams. 

All AP exam-related fees (including late registration, no-shows, and late drops) must be paid through School Cash Online.  A School Cash Online processing fee will also be applied.  For support with School Cash Online, please email communitytechsupport@mcpsmd.org
