This page exists to exhaustively list of the responsibilities and requirements for any employer or organization interested in hosting an intern. A brief overview of these responsibilities include sharing a quarterly evaluation with the school, verifying student submitted hours, and being open to host the internship teacher for site visits or check in calls. If you have questions please reach out to the internship teacher at everett.a.brown2@mcpsmd.net.
For an internship to count for MCPS school credit, we need two forms on file - the Sponsor Questionnaire and the Internship Program Agreement. To make submitting these forms as straightforward as possible, there will be different instructions for new vs returning employers for the 2026-2027 school year at BCC. These detailed instructions are coming soon and should be available by 12/18/25.
Depending on the number of periods the student is interning, they will need either 75, 150, or 225 hours per semester. To pass the class, the student needs to reach the hour requirement that applies to them. This translates to roughly 5, 10, or 15 hours per week. As part of the interview and application process, it is important to be on the same page as your intern with hours expectations.
Each quarter, site supervisors submit an evaluation for their student intern. This evaluation makes up 15% of the students grade for the quarter. The evaluation is rubric based, you can see the paper version of the form here. After submitting the evaluation, time should be set aside to review it with the student.
To make this process as straightforward as possible, this form is distributed electronically with google forms. A two week window is given to complete the evaluation.
To ease the workload of internship supervisors, students are responsible for entering all hours worked at their internship site. However, to provide accountability, employers will need to review and verify these hours once per quarter. A weekly summary will be generate, emailed to you along with the quarterly evaluation, and you will mark in the google form whether or not the hours are accurate. Again, there is a two week window for this process.
Site visits involve BCC staff visiting a student's workplace. This can be to review student working conditions and tasks, address any concerns from either the student or supervisor, or gather program marketing materials. The goal is to have every worksite visited at least once per year, either virtually or in person. Site visits would be requested and scheduled at least a week in advance.
