Grounds Rules For Simulation
Simulation is intended to be a safe place, physically and psychologically. Students are allowed to make mistakes in simulation. Please read the following carefully. These are a set of rules and obligations that must be followed to ensure a safe place in simulation.
What happens in simulation stays in simulation.
Be positive and respectful at all times to those present, including your peers.
Students are expected to stay engaged and involved in the simulation experience.
Provide constructive feedback (i.e. positive and needs improvement) when requested.
Arrive on time and prepared. Students should dress in the same attire they would wear for clinical days including uniform and name badge. If you arrive without the proper equipment, uniform and preparatory work, you will not be permitted to participate and will be asked to leave. The student’s clinical instructor will be notified; an unsatisfactory (U) will be documented in the student’s clinical evaluation tool.
Observers will give participants their undivided attention.
Despite efforts to create a realistic environment, not all aspects of a simulated experience may be totally realistic. However, students should treat the simulation experience as a real experience that will allow the transfer of knowledge back to the clinical setting.
Students should observe all isolation practices and precautions. All sharps must be handled safely and disposed of properly.
Treat the simulation manikin and other actors with respect and care, as if they were real persons in a real situation.
When talking on the phone, use the speaker feature so all participants can hear and learn from the experience.
Know your Nursing Central login information. Plan to use Nursing Central as a reference during simulation.
Cell-phones and cameras are NOT permitted without the facilitator’s knowledge and permission, including during observational periods.
Students identified as not being engaged for any reason (scrolling on a device, side conversations, appearance of sleeping etc.) will be dismissed from the simulation setting. The student’s clinical instructor will be notified; an unsatisfactory (U) will be documented in the student’s clinical evaluation tool.
No students are allowed in the Simulation Lab without Faculty/Instructor present.
Students are not permitted to touch any equipment in the Simulation Lab except for equipment with which they are directly working.
Students will be held responsible for damage to the equipment as a result of not following Simulation Lab policy and procedure.
Misuse of any equipment by any student will result in dismissal of that student from the Simulation Lab.
Students are not permitted in the Computer Control area.
