Welcome to this important stage in your educational journey!

Introduction

Any student who successfully graduates from the Practical Nursing (PN) program or successfully completes semesters one and two of the Associate Degree-Nursing (AD-N) program:

May apply to take the NCLEX-PN.  Passing the NCLEX-PN allows you to receive a license to practice as an LPN.

_______________________________________________________

Any student who successfully completes and graduates from the Associate Degree-Nursing (AD-N) program (all four semesters):

May apply and take the NCLEX-RN.  Passing the NCLEX-RN allows you to receive a license to practice as an RN.

Getting Started

To get started.....in your final semester, you must apply for graduation.  You need to apply for graduation regardless of whether you plan to participate in the graduation or pinning ceremony.  To apply for graduation, go to Self Service: selfservice.matc.edu.  (Please note:  you don't have to wait until graduation to apply for your license!  Scroll down for more details).

Next, visit and bookmark the LicensE application portal to create an account and apply for your license.  Then visit and bookmark this website to create your Pearson Vue account

Next, familiarize yourself with the Eight Steps of the NCLEX listed below; these steps will walk you through the process of applying to a board of nursing to become a fully licensed nursing professional.

Note:  For students needing help, instead of emailing the DSPS general address or calling, the quickest way to get a response is to submit a help ticket.

The Eight Steps of the NCLEX

1. Apply for MATC graduation by the deadline, regardless of whether you plan to participate in the graduation or pinning ceremony.  This step is necessary for the college to recognize that you are finishing your program.  Once a student officially graduates, the registrar needs to review each graduating student's record for proper credits to verify graduation.  The review may take six weeks or more.  Please be aware that all transferred credits from other colleges should have been transferred. Any application with missing credits will be denied.

2. Apply for licensure with one board of nursing (see LicensE link above)

and register and pay the required fee to Pearson VUE via the Internet or telephone.

3. Receive Acknowledgement of Receipt of Registration from Pearson VUE by email.

4. Send completed Form #259 with your application number (example: PAR-0000001111) to the MATC graduation office (email: graduation@matc.edu).

🚩IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE REGISTRAR  🚩

Students should only complete the TOP portion of form #259 (do NOT complete the bottom/school portion or the form will be sent back to you).

When completing Form 259, students should contact graduation@matc.edu with questions. There is an assigned staff member that follows up with students using this email account.

Do not contact the Registrar (Dr. Sarah Adams) by phone or email as this will result in a delay in getting your questions answered.

If you have any questions regarding registering or where to locate the proper application number, contact LicensE directly.

5. Receive Authorization to Test (ATT) email from Pearson VUE.

6. Schedule your exam appointment via the Internet (by accessing your online account) or by telephone (international scheduling may only be done by phone).

7. Arrive for the exam appointment and present the accepted identification.

8. Receive your official results from your board of nursing up to six weeks after your exam (this time period varies among boards of nursing).

Program Codes

You will need to use one of the following National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) program codes.  Please read carefully and make sure to use the CORRECT CODE!

Stand alone Practical Nursing Program students should use program code:

US50101400

Students who have completed second semester of the ADN program and intend to take the NCLEX-PN:   US50105800

Students who have completed all four semesters of the ADN program and intend to take the NCLEX-RN:   US50408000

Apply for your license early!

You don't have to wait until graduation to APPLY for your license!  By applying early, you can save time later and may be able to work in the nursing field sooner.

Here are the quick steps to find licensing information:

https://register.wisconsin.gov/AccountManagement/default.aspx

When creating an account-- For Systems You Will Access: select OLAS applicant.

Once a student officially graduates, the registrar needs to review each graduating student's record for proper credits to verify graduation. Please be aware that all transferred credits from other colleges should have been transferred. Any application with missing credits will be denied.  Check your program plan for course work required for your degree.

Once the state receives the statement of graduation, in addition to all of your forms and payment, you receive approval from the Board of Nursing on the Wisconsin DOA/Wisconsin site indicating that you are authorized to take the exam.  This usually occurs the second/third week after graduation.

You will not need to bring a printed copy of the email to the test center, just an ID with the name that matches the name on the Authorization to Test letter.

Please note:  You must have graduated from the nursing program in order to take the licensure exam.  A student may apply to take the exam before graduation but a student cannot take the exam prior to graduation.  REQUESTS to take the NCLEX before graduation from the program will not be granted.

Wisconsin Technical College System Policy:

Please note:  The Wisconsin Technical College System has issued the following policy regarding the option for taking the NCLEX-RN licensure exam prior to graduation:  "In order to qualify for taking the NCLEX - RN prior to graduation, a student MUST PASS ALL 4th SEMESTER NURSING COURSES.  Permission will be granted by the Nursing Program Administrator”.

A special note for ADN Level II students who wish to take the NCLEX-PN:
