In 2nd grade, we begin music literacy - learning how to read music! We begin by learning duple rhythm patterns (quarter and eighth notes). Throughout the year, students will progress through a 12-step sequence of learning. Like learning a language, students will begin learning the rhythms through hearing and echoing (sound) before they start to read the musical symbols (sight).
