Here is Miss O'Donnell playing the recorder with her elementary music teacher - her mom!
I'm excited for one final year of music making together with our THIRD graders!
In 3rd grade, we learn to play the recorder in the second half of the year.
In the first half of the year, we review what we've learned in 1st and 2nd grade and add on reading music on the staff. While we learn to read music, we will continue to folk dance, sing, and play classroom instruments.
We continue music literacy in 3rd grade, building on what we learned last year. In 3rd grade we will be learning about the Music Staff and learning about the pitches that are on the staff. Throughout the year, students will progress through a 12-step sequence of learning. Like learning a language, students will begin learning the pitches on the staff through hearing and echoing (sound) before they start to read the musical symbols (sight).
Third grade music class is the perfect opportunity to show all of the building blocks we've learned in first and second grade. The pinnacle of the pyramid is to "be musical" - that's what we're focusing on in third grade!
