At the beginning of the year, we are mostly getting acquainted with the music room! In Kindergarten, we held music class in the library, so we are enjoying having our very own musical space.
We are learning and practicing our 1st grade music class routines - where we sit, how we move, singing voice, and schedule.
First grade students have music twice a cycle. We follow the same schedule each music class. Our schedule is made up of 3 basic types of activities. The songs and games for each type of activity varies from class to class.
"Arioso" is a fun way to engage students' singing voices. We have a corner of the music room called Ariosoland - where you can ONLY communicate by using your singing voice! In Ariosoland, students are able to improvise and engage in making music through using their singing voices.
We warm up our voices, sing in fragments, and sing short songs. We also explore creating using our singing voice with Ariosoland.
We move in a variety of ways. We move in response to music - motions with a song, dancing, keeping the beat, and exploring with movement.
We listen to music through singing books and recordings.
Tuneful people are able to keep songs in their mind, create short melodies of their own, and sing well enough that people don’t beg them to stop!
Beatful (yes, that is how I meant to spell it) people can sway in time to music for their wedding and rock a baby to sleep with a lullaby
Artful people see beauty around them, seek out artistic experiences in life, and support their local artistic scene.
