In this course, I embarked on the initial stages of my doctoral research (DiP). The course was structured with progressively complex assignments that pushed me to develop my literature review. I began by choosing my research topic, research questions and then delved into various methods to gather relevant studies. I critically assessed and chose scholarly articles, integrating my findings into an annotated bibliography. This was followed by organizing all the gathered evidence into a detailed report, which I eventually presented in a formal academic setting. Throughout this process, I honed my skills in evaluating differing research perspectives, breaking down the components of my literature review, critiquing established theories, and crafting a well-argued and persuasive literature review.
For this assignment, we completed three essential CITI Program courses that provided guidance on selecting research topics and ethical requirements. As an educational researcher, I have a duty to treat participants respectfully and be transparent about my intentions when conducting research for my doctoral thesis.
This annotated bibliography explores the effectiveness of faculty training and professional development programs in online teaching. I focus on several key aspects, including the impact of these programs, faculty perceptions, best practices, and the institutional frameworks that support them. Through evaluating a range of scholarly sources, my aim was to inform the design and implementation of more effective programs that can enhance the quality of online education. Key themes I explored include the evolution of teaching practices, course design, and the experiences of faculty during major educational shifts, such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This literature review assignment critically examines how faculty development programs enhance instructors' pedagogical and technological competencies for online education. The review analyzes various studies to highlight the importance of professional development, particularly in improving faculty readiness, online teaching quality, and student satisfaction. The literature review also proposes further research to address gaps in the existing literature on effective faculty training practices in online learning environments.
This assignment required me with synthesizing the findings from my literature review into a clear and structured academic presentation for an upcoming national conference. I was required to build a persuasive argument for my research project while also honing my presentation skills.
