This course highlighted the critical need for leaders to be adaptable and transformative in the complex, ever-changing global online education. We applied Bolman and Deal's four frames of transformative leadership—structural, human resources, political, and symbolic—to realistic leadership adaptations. I valued how these frameworks offered perspectives and pathways for change. Our main assignments focused on two areas: using systems thinking to effect change and creating a transformative change plan for a chosen organization.
In this project, I applied systems thinking to explore how investing in educational technology and instructional design can enhance workforce development. I developed a reinforcing loop model, starting with the initial investment, which leads to improved learning experiences, better skill acquisition, increased workforce productivity, and ultimately, economic growth. I also identified key questions and potential unintended consequences at each stage and proposed strategies to address them. Throughout this process, I emphasized the importance of involving diverse stakeholders to ensure the initiative is equitable, sustainable, and fosters long-term innovation.
In this assignment, as the sole Instructional Design Lead, I am driving a critical transformation in how we approach faculty development and training in online teaching and educational technology. My focus was on addressing the current gaps by creating a structured professional development program designed to enhance faculty skills and adaptability in an evolving educational landscape. This initiative aims to foster continuous learning, improve online teaching practices, and ultimately contribute to greater student success in our digital classrooms.
In this assignment, I analyzed how systems thinking can enhance workforce development through educational technology and instructional design, using the Four Frames of Leadership—Structural, Human Resource, Political, and Symbolic. I matched each frame to key challenges like funding, equitable access, and sustainability, and proposed solutions for each. The goal was to show how a comprehensive approach that addresses structure, human needs, power dynamics, and culture can drive the successful integration of technology in education and support long-term outcomes.
For my Transformational Leadership Change Project, I addressed the lack of structured professional development for faculty, particularly in online education. I proposed creating an Online Learning Support Center to provide ongoing, structured training in digital teaching tools. This aimed to help faculty improve their skills, enhance teaching quality, and boost student outcomes. The plan included incentives for participation and regular assessments to ensure continued growth and effectiveness. By implementing this, the institution could foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in education.
