What is a #hashtag?

A hashtag is a combination of letters, numbers, and/or emoji preceded by the # symbol (e.g., #NoFilter). Instagram hashtags are used to categorize or label content and make it more discoverable. You can add hashtags to the caption of your Instagram post or Reel, or include them in text elements on your Instagram Story. 

You can create hashtags just by using them but its best to use hashtags that exist or are common in order for your post to be discovered through search.

How to Use Hashtags:

• Open Instagram app

• Take or upload a photo or video.

• Choose to add a filter for a photo or trim a video, then click Next.

• Click Write a caption... and type # followed by text or emoji (example: #flower) for each keyword you want to hashtag.

• Click Share.

If you want to add a hashtag to a post you've already uploaded, edit the caption or include your hashtag in a comment on your photo.
