Central idea: Exploration leads to discoveries, opportunities and new understandings.
LBQ - Each week, we are setting tasks on the Learning by Questions platform for the children to do at home, as additional tasks to the ones that we are doing in school. We are extremely fortunate to have this platform to support the children's learning, and we would greatly encourage you to use this at home as a resource for the children to learn from.
SATs like a Ninja - We have been using our books to support the children's revision for the forthcoming assessments. They have been an excellent resource to recap the skills needed to answer questions in each of the papers. Please do continue to go over concepts which they are struggling with at home, as this will also support their understanding and confidence.
Maths - We are focusing on number and place value; calculations; fractions, decimals and percentages. Please support these concepts with the children at home
Grammar - Our grammar revision is going well and the children are able to identify many key grammatical terms.
Spelling- We have practised words with silent letters, words with suffixes and prefixes, words with words with 'tion' and 'tious'. Please discuss the spelling patterns of any tricky words when reading with your children at home.
Reading Comprehension - We have been working on many strategies to help the children fully comprehend the text they are reading such as: skimming and scanning for key words and phrases, understanding the difference between retrieval and inference and a strategy to help when summarising texts.
If you recognise an area of learning your child would like more support or practice with, please do let us know and we can add this to LBQ for them.
Inquiry
The children have been inquiring into the age of exploration by researching early explorers. They have begun to build a timeline of exploration, considering who the early explorers were and where they travelled to.
Our key text is Windrush Child, a thought-provoking take by Benjamin Zephaniah. The tale explores what it was like to be a child of the Windrush generation from the author's perspective.
