Central idea: Places can change as a result of human impact and organisations
Last week, the children really enjoyed their visit to the library to learn all about the history of Marden and how Marden has changed over time. We looked at a wide variety of maps that showed the stages of growth of the village as well as which roads and buildings would have been in Marden in the 1600s! On Friday last week we also had our village walk and saw so many interesting features of Marden, from the different types of houses to the amount of open spaces and amenities. All this amazing discovery has helped us in planning our own housing development for Marden, incorporating the many features and characteristics that we have learnt about.
In writing we have been inquiring about the impact of forest destruction to create towns and cities in the wonderful picture book 'Greta and the Giants'. Children have been inspired to write some highly detailed character and setting descriptions in addition to emotive letter writing and diary entries.
For inquiry, we have also been learning about different sources of energy and how to create a simple electrical circuit. In maths, we are coming to the end of our unit on problem solving with fractions, which has enabled children to really push their knowledge of times tables. Please keep practising tables at home!
