Central idea: Rules and laws within a society can help shape its structure.
Our inquiry this module includes looking at rules and responsibilities and how we organise ourselves in society.
We have continued our journey exploring the ideas of rules and responsibility by thinking in more depth about why we have rules and what having a set of rules adds to society as a collective. In our exploration we gave the children some agency around rules we have, rules that we should reconsider and furthermore, rules they believed should feature. After considering Parliament and the role of debating, the children decided to hols their own debate abiding by the rules of the House of Commons, including electing a speaker. We were impressed by the logical approach the children took to their arguments and the way they respected the rules of the 'House' during the debating session
In writing, the children have been writing a narrative linking to our core text, 'The Princess and the White Bear King'. We have been impressed by the use of expanded noun phrases and such rich descriptive writing, they really showcased their use of language drawing on their knowledge of the text.
In maths, we have started to explore the concept of mass, volume and capacity, comparing different units of measure. The children have practically explored the impact of changing mass and problem solved when multiple objects are weighed together working out 2-step problems to work out heavier and lighter.
Science learning continues with our identifying, classifying and grouping theme to explore evergreen and deciduous tress during an outside lesson to thinking about food chains. We considered the role of the 'producer', the 'consumer' and the 'decomposer' and how they linked.
