Central idea: Cultural identity can be expressed through creativity.
Over the last two weeks, in addition to all our remembrance work, we have begun to explore our new inquiry by looking into who we are. This started by literally looking at who we ourselves are such as our features, family and likes, but also understanding how these are not the same as others; we are unique! We have then explored 'we' referring to our world and how it is full of differences which should be accepted and celebrated. Using the text "If the world were a village", we have seen a wide range of key differences in the world. Many of these shocked us such as that 24% of people in our world do not have access to electricity, or that of the 18% of people who do not have access to safe water, the work of collecting clean water is done by women and girls. This led into enlightening discussions on the importance of inclusion and approaches on achieving equality.
Part of who we are, is influenced by what we see online and other various media - this led our learning into discovering real and fake news. We presented our understanding by writing instruction on how to check the reliability of sources and the importance of questioning what we read and see. To conclude our first line of inquiry we created a journal online using ou computer skills to create videos, recording and written communication to illustrate who we are.
