Central idea: Our likes and dislikes make us who we are.
It has been an exciting couple of weeks in Early Years. The tomatoes we planted using the leftover seeds from our snack time have started to grow. The children were thrilled and wanted to tell the lion and the bird right away. We decided that we would send an invitation to the Lion and Bird asking them to come to the tea party by writing our names on the invitation. The children have explored their shared likes of caring for animals and cooking, through making tomato soup and cupcakes ready for the tea party. They had to peel, grate, mash, mix and measure to ensure the perfect recipe.
Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring how people's individual likes make them who they are. Our key text for this will be 'My Pet Goldfish' by Catherine Rayner. Together we will look at how our individual preferences start to shape our lives, for example with pets, some families have pet dogs, cats, horses or no pets at all. We look forward to exploring the children's favourite animals and seeing the wonderful ways they decide to drive their own learning.
