Central idea: Places can change as a result of human impact and organisations.
Since coming back after Easter the children have been working so hard on our first line of inquiry. We have begun looking at the locality of Marden and its different styles of housing and types of amenities. In art, we have used inspiration from our focus textile artist for this term, Cas Holmes, as well as considering our environment, values, interests and emotions. The children have produced their own amazing Coat of Arms incorporating stitching, collage and mosaic.
In writing, we have been looking at the Battle of Hastings and the reign of William the Conqueror. The children have researched, created timelines and written some detailed and well-considered biographies about him.
Next week, we will be walking to the Heritage Centre (Marden Library) on Wednesday morning to look at a variety of old maps, photographs and census records of Marden to help us understand how the locality has changed. On Friday 9th, we will also be walking around Marden to see the different houses, open spaces and amenities to help us understand how a village develops over time.
