Central idea: People need specific skills and qualities to do different jobs.
Please ensure your child's reading folder is coming into school every day to ensure their books are being changed throughout the week.
Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school. We will be doing PE on Tuesdays moving forwards.
The children will be coming to school with a prop such as a headband or hat or dressed up as a job they aspire to have when they are older on Tuesday 6th of May. We cannot wait to see which jobs interest them!
This week we have been looking at different jobs in our local community. Following our walk from last week, we have been reflecting on the jobs that are available in our local area. We also considered how the jobs in our local area might be different to other local areas.
"In Marden, we have a dentist and a pharmacy. Some places have zookeepers. We don't have zookeepers because we don't have a zoo!"
"People teach children to surf. No one does that in Marden because we don't have a beach".
We thought about how jobs have changed over time in Marden.
"There was a bicycle shop in Marden because not many people had cars a long time ago".
We have started to think about the jobs that significant people have. We have spent time learning about Mary Anning and her life as a palaeontologist. We have written stories about her and even had a go at identifying fossils for ourselves.
In maths, we have been learning about arrays. We have been identifying how many objects are in the rows and columns of our arrays and used our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to work out how many counters there are altogether.
