Juniper Learning Update

Central idea: Families can support the local community.

Over the past few weeks, team Juniper has been thinking about what makes up the Marden community. The children quickly named lots of the places that make up their community including: the library, church, school, shops, restaurants, cafes and more.

When Juniper class were asked what the children think makes a good community they said:

Sophia: "In a community people should care about each other."

Oliver: "I love going to the library, the library has loads of books to borrow for everyone in Marden. I get Julia Donaldson books in the library."

Montana: "The best place in the community is the school so that we can learn."

Jack: "I like the cafe they have cakes and sausage rolls, I would be sad if there was no cafe."

Cameron: "Marden has lots of places to play." ... Isaac: " Like the parks."

Jamie: "In Marden there are lots of flowers for the bees."

We built on our learning by discussing the importance of looking after our community and the people in them.  The children used their phonic knowledge to write sentences about how their families help the community.

Esme: "My mum helps the children in the pre-school to be safe and to learn."

Roman: "My dad helps to build houses to create a community."

Finn: "My mum helps the community by teaching people yoga. Yoga is good for you."

Flora: "My family makes sure that there is no litter in the community by litter picking."

Next week, the children in the early years will be taking a walk to the church to see what the church provides for the local  community. From this, the early years children are going to decide how they can help the community. We are excited to share our thoughts with you.
