3/4Cedar Learning Update

Central idea: Economic activities rely on systems of production, exchange and consumption.

This week, we have continued our inquiry on local, national and global trade. The children have used internet maps to locate the countries where the fruit they see in the supermarkets is grown. We have been discussing the reasons why peaches, for example, can come from countries as different as Italy and China and the potential environmental impact.

The children have been researching paintings of fruit by the artist Caravaggio. They have reflected on the artist's motivation, as well as the techniques and materials he used. They then sketched and painted their own interpretations of his works.

We have also been working on narrative poetry as part of our inquiry. The children have very much enjoyed writing their own poems, with a particular focus on the use of figurative language and chocolate!
