Central idea: People with different beliefs may struggle for rights and freedoms.
Year 5 has been full of exciting learning!
In Maths, we have been working hard on addition and subtraction, tackling problems with four-digit numbers using the column method. The children have shown fantastic focus and resilience as they solved increasingly tricky calculations.
In Writing, we became journalists! Linking to our inquiry into Human Rights, we wrote our own newspaper reports. The children imagined what life might be like if children’s rights were taken away and explored how people would react. They did an excellent job using quotations and speech marks to include different voices and opinions in their reports. It was inspiring to see their empathy and creativity shine through in their writing.
In Inquiry, we have been learning about the artist Yayoi Kusama, who is famous for using dots in her work. We have started to explore the relationship between colour and emotions, and the children are beginning to plan their own 'dotty' artworks inspired by Kusama. These artworks will represent different human rights infringements, showing both feelings and messages through colour and design.
In Science, we have been exploring life cycles. The children have investigated insects, amphibians, and plants, using lots of technical vocabulary to describe the different stages. We have also looked closely at metamorphosis and how some creatures undergo incredible transformations as they grow.
Year 5 have completed several assessments at the end of this week. They have tried their best and the Year 5 adults are incredibly proud of how hard they have worked. Well done everyone!
