Intro to Guitar
Description:
The class is designed to teach non-guitarists the basics of playing beginning level guitar. Chord reading, melodic playing, and reading tablature will be the focus of the course. Students will gain the tools to continue their growth as guitarist beyond the end of the semester.
Class Structure:
The basic layout of the class will be in three components. The beginning of each class will be working as the entire group, learning new chords, techniques, strumming patterns, or musical concepts. The middle section of each class will consist of students learning an assigned song, exercise, or task. The final section of each class will be run as personal lessons, the students will choose their own songs that they wish to learn and the teacher will assist. This allows students to progress at their own pace.
You may not be a Jimmy Page by the end of the class but you will be on your way!
Advanced Guitar
Description:
The class is designed to continue the education of intermediate to advanced level guitarists/ Chord reading, melodic playing, and reading tablature will be the focus of the course. Students will explore genres, techniques, and configurations that will continue their growth as guitarist beyond the end of the semester.
Class Structure:
There are four basic components to the course. Entire group work, which consists of warm ups, learning new chords, techniques, strumming patterns, or musical concepts. Song assignments, which are songs/segments that all students will learn as a group. Group assignments/performances, where students will learn/create/perform as exercise, song, or segment as a group. Students will also explore Rock Band Configurations working on Singing, Drum Set, EBass, and Electric Guitar. Finally, Personal Song/Personal Practice: the majority of the course will consist of students choosing their own pieces to learn and to practice on their own. In these segments the teacher will act as a private instructor and give students one on one help with their own pieces. This allows students to progress at their own pace.
