SPANISH 1
Grade level: 9-12
Year: 1 credit
Description: The course is conducted mostly in Spanish using comprehensible input. Students will acquire the language by listening and reading to support their eventual output of writing and speaking. While the focus of learning will be on the language, learning about the culture and diversity of the people who speak Spanish is included in the course as well.
SPANISH 2
Grade level: 10-12
Year: 1 credit
Prerequisite: Spanish I
Description: The second year of Spanish is a continuation of Spanish I and uses comprehensible input to acquire more language. Listening and reading in Spanish is used to support the eventual output of writing and speaking. While the focus of learning will be on the language, learning about the culture and diversity of the people who speak Spanish is continued in the course as well. At the completion of Level II students are eligible and invited to participate in school sponsored foreign travel with teacher recommendation.
SPANISH 3
Grade level: 11-12
Year: 1 credit
Prerequisite: C- or higher in Spanish 2
Description: The third year of Spanish builds on the language skills acquired in Spanish I and Spanish II. Comprehensible input is used to increase the ability to communicate in Spanish, including writing and speaking. While the focus of learning will be on the language, learning about the culture and diversity of the people who speak Spanish is continued as well.
SPANISH 4
Grade level: 12
Year: 1 credit
Prerequisite: C- or higher in Spanish 3
Description: The fourth year of Spanish is a continuation of the language acquisition journey toward proficiency. Comprehensible input includes novels and TV series made for learners of Spanish. Students use their language skills to create and competently communicate both in oral and written form. Students who continue to this level have the greatest success at earning retroactive college credit after graduating from MHS.
