Through considering common misconceptions as part of the unit planning process we can be better prepared for how to address them when we see them and we can even build them into our plans so that the misconceptions are corrected before they even arise in student work.
Use your past experiences with both teaching and learning the unit content to help identify potential misconceptions students might have throughout your unit. You can also identify misconceptions by taking a look at assessments for your standards of focus and considering the misconceptions that could lead students to answering questions incorrectly.
