In DT this week, the children had the exciting opportunity to make their own vegetable pastries. This followed on from our learning about different vegetables and the importance of a balanced diet.
The children carefully prepared and combined ingredients, thinking about how to make their pastries both healthy and tasty. They really enjoyed the hands-on experience of cooking and were proud of their final creations.
This activity helped the children understand where food comes from and how we can make healthy choices in our everyday lives.
Week Beginning 9th March 2026
In History this week, we began learning about the life of Dr Barnardo and the important work he did to help others. We discovered how he cared for vulnerable children during Victorian times and worked hard to provide them with safe homes, food, and education.
To help bring our learning to life, the children took part in role play activities, acting out key moments from Dr Barnardo’s life. This helped them to better understand how children may have felt during that time and why his work was so important.

This week we celebrated World Book Day and enjoyed a range of exciting activities all about reading and its importance. World Book Day is a special event that celebrates books, authors, and the joy of reading. It encourages children to develop a love of books and helps everyone discover how reading can spark imagination, creativity, and learning.
Throughout the week, the children took part in a variety of fun activities. We joined live reading sessions, spent time reading with our reading buddies, and explored different stories together. The highlight of the week was World Book Day itself, when the children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters.
We enjoyed a whole-school parade, where everyone had the chance to show off their fantastic costumes. The day was filled with creative activities, storytelling, and lots of shared reading, making it a wonderful celebration of books and the magic they bring to our lives.
Week Beginning 23rd February 2026 I
In DT this week, we began exploring where food comes from. We focused particularly on vegetables and learned about those that grow above the ground and those that grow underground. The children enjoyed sorting different vegetables into the correct groups and discussing how they grow. This helped us understand more about farming and how food reaches our plates.
Week Beginning 23rd February 2026
n Science, we continued our ongoing topic on plants. This week, we learned about the difference between seeds and bulbs. We planted both and placed one set in a warmer spot and another in a cooler spot to investigate how temperature affects plant growth. Over the coming weeks, we will carefully observe and record what happens, acting like real scientists as we compare the results.
Week Beginning 9th February 2026
To mark Children’s Mental Health Week, we ended the week with a special Express Yourself Day. The children came dressed in outfits that represented who they are and what makes them unique.
Throughout the day, they took part in different activities focused on identity and belonging. We discussed what it means to belong and why it is important to feel accepted and valued. The children then wrote their own thoughtful poems about the places where they feel they truly belong. It was a meaningful and reflective way to celebrate individuality and wellbeing.
Week Beginning 9th February 2026
This week, we finished our exciting story, The Dragon Machine. The children wrote their own imaginative versions of the story, thinking carefully about how it might end. To help solve the problem in our classroom, we even built our own dragon machine, hoping the dragons that had appeared would use it to fly away!
The children thoroughly enjoyed this book and worked incredibly hard on their writing. They used expanded noun phrases, a range of descriptive adjectives, and made sure to include conjunctions such as because and when to extend their sentences. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow throughout this unit.
Week Beginning 2nd February 2026
We had an amazing educational visit to Spitalfields City Farm. Despite a little drizzle of rain, our excitement remained high as we made our way there — and just as we arrived, the sun came out! We had a wonderful time seeing a variety of different animals, feeling the warmth of a freshly laid egg, and watching how a rabbit hutch is cleaned out.
We also learned about how vegetables are grown, both indoors and outdoors, and discovered the different conditions plants need to grow successfully. This linked perfectly with our Science learning.
We enjoyed eating our lunch together in the farm’s safari tent and completed a fun activity pack, which helped us learn even more about farm life. We then made our journey back to school, with a little more drizzle along the way.
It was a fantastic day out, and both the children and adults had a lovely time, full of learning, laughter, and memorable experiences.

In Science this week, Year 2 investigated the changing shape of different materials. We explored whether a range of objects — including a wooden spoon, pipe cleaners, Blu Tack, and foil — could be bent, stretched, twisted, or squashed. The children carefully tested each material and recorded their findings, discussing which materials changed shape easily and which did not. This investigation helped us develop our observation skills and understand the properties of different materials.

This week, we started a brand-new topic on Temperature. The children explored what a thermometer looks like and discussed when we might use one, linking it to checking our temperature when we are feeling unwell and have a fever.
We then carried out a practical investigation, measuring the temperature of two cups of water. The children discovered that the cold water measured below 20 degrees Celsius, while the hot water measured around 40 degrees Celsius. This hands-on activity helped them understand how temperature can be measured and compared.

This week in English, Year 2 made an exciting discovery — a dragon’s nest under the tables! The classroom was filled with curiosity and wonder as the children investigated the scene. They practised using adjectives, verbs, and expanded noun phrases to describe what they saw, capturing the mystery and excitement of the dragon’s visit. The children asked hundreds of thoughtful questions, and we can’t wait to continue unravelling what has happened in our classroom next week!
