Another exciting week! Our text for the next couple of weeks will be Paddington Bear. He even came to visit us in our class and told us what his favourite food is. Can you guess?. We had our Science week as well and we carried out some investigations around materials that are absorbent or stretchy. We watched a live science lesson around farm animals we never knew that goats als produce milk interesting. We also got to share our learning with Year 2. It can be scary talking infront of other children but we are determined to be more confident when talking in a big group.Next week we will be doing some writing so come back and see what we have done.

Week Beginning 3rd March 2025

This week we looked at a story called Alice in Wonderland as a whole school. Our hook into the lesson was us going through a rabbit hole to enter our classroom. It was so much fun! We wanted our class to always be like that but the adults said "bending down all the time is tricky for us". We wrote our own adventure in wonderland story.

 During the week we went on a local trip to the Recycling point near our school and  were surprised by the amount of litter we came across on the the way there. In R.E we are finding out about what things are special to people and the different objects they have in their homes. We looked at some of them and draw these special things on the templates of houses.

We celebrated World Book Day and came in dressed as different characters from some of our favourite books. We read our stories out to eachother in the class as well.  We really had a lovely week! 

Week Beginning 24th February 2025

Welcome to  Spring 2! We are really excited about the learning we are going to be doing this half term. We started off our week with some grammar activities we even got to act some of them out like jumping , sliding and driving. We want to include these verbs in our writing as well as plurals for nouns and learn some of their rules for spelling them In Maths we are learning how to measure the height and length of objects using  non-standard and standard measures. We will be continuing with this learning next week. In science we want to learn how to differentiate and group animals and learn about their diets. Keep coming back to see the amazing learning that we will be doing.

Week Beginning 3rd February 2025

This week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have learnt how to recognise,name and sort some of them and we enjoyed explaining our reasoning about the decisions we made when sorting them. In P.E this term our focus is Dance and we have been learning how to make high, low and sequence movements that represent growth of plants. We were so dramatic, it was beautiful to watch. We have also created our own narrative following on from our story 'The Storm Whale' and we have learnt to orally rehearse it, create a text map for it and then  write the story in our books. 

Week Beginning 27th  January 2025

This week we took part of our learning outside to use our senses to make observations about things we can see and hear. We are also learning about the oceans and continents in the world. Do you know that the ocean covers more than 70% of the  surface of our planet? About 97% of the Earth's water can be found in our oceans as well. Keep coming back  to learn other facts from us.

Week Beginning  20th   January 2025

This week in science we have been carrying out comparative tests by measuring each others foot to see who has the longest foot. We made predictions about who we thought would have the longest foot and our prediction was spot on! well done to us. We also wrote our story using our text map these below are just a sample of our writing.

Week Beginning 13th January 2025

This week we have been orally rehearsing our story text map to help us with our writing next week. We are continuing to learn about nouns, adjectives and verbs to support our writing. We are learning how to add and subtract numbers using different methods . We are using concrete resources to help us before we start recording our methods. In science we are learning about our senses and the related body parts. We have work also to complete on Purple Mash to help us understand which body parts we use for different things.We enjoy working together also to complete tasks.

Week Beginning 6th January 2025

Welcome to Spring Term in Year 1, we have a lot of exciting activities lined up for us this term. We started off this term by creating whale moving  pictures as a hook for our unit.We are learning how to add numbers by making 10 and adding on the ones. We will be looking at different strategies over the next week. We created symbols that represent us in R.E. We are learning how to identify nouns,adjectives and verbs as well as use the 'word' and to join our sentences together. Keep asking us at home to describe objects . We will be learning how to create our own sculptures using ideas from an artist called Judith Scott so watch this space.
