Term 6
Welcome to Term 6! Our whole class text this term is 'Beowulf', which is a retelling (by Michael Morpurgo) of the classic Anglo-Saxon epic poem. Linked to our text, we will be finding out about Anglo-Saxons in our history learning journey, applying our historical skills to explore the build-up and impact of the Battle of Hastings.
In our maths, we will be investigating fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as position and direction. Our science learning will be on the life cycles of living things, as well as finding out the ways in which animals, including humans, grow and change.
Our art lessons will involve exploring images of Anglo-Saxon artefacts, including jewellery, and using these to inspire our own resist printing designs. In computing, we are moving on to using selection in physical computing.
Our PE lessons are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this term, and we will be practising our rounders and athletic skills. Please ensure that your child has a named PE kit in school. We are continuing to set homework weekly, usually on a Thursday or a Friday, and we would like homework books to be back in school by Thursday at the latest. Please continue to read regularly with your child at home, or to encourage them to read independently.
Thank you for all your support.
The Year 5 Team
PE - This term we have hockey sessions on Tuesday afternoons and football with Mr Charlton on Thursday mornings. Please make sure your P.E. kit is in school on these days.
Reading - The children are expected to read regularly at home and should read story books from cover to cover. Reading Journals should be brought into school every day. We set a Reading Journal activity once a week, due in on Friday.
Spellings - Rules are taught regularly, and the children work on spelling every day at school. Spelling Journals should be brought into school every day.
Maths - It is very important that the children practise their times tables regularly to support their maths learning. All children have a login to TT Rockstars and Doodlemaths - practising little and often is best.
