This term, our learning journey is Bright Sparks.
The main Learning Journey drivers will be Science and DT.
In Science, we will focus on electricity. Using our science electrical kits and also electrical components, the children will learn how an electrical circuit works, and how to combine components to create a working electrical circuit. They will experiment with different layouts and combinations, learn which materials make good conductors and which are insulators and make their own switches to explore how a current can be connected and interrupted from flowing through a circuit.
In DT, we will design and make our own model cars and explore ways to make wheels turn when using different types of axles. When we have designed and made our cars, we will construct an electrical circuit with a switch and light to add to our model cars.
In English, we are starting by reading the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright to explore features of poetry and create our own version.
Our focus text this term will be The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Through reading, drama and analysing the features of narrative, we will build the skills needed to write our own narrative, focusing on the fate of the misfit and ways to accommodate those who find it more difficult to be a part of a community, such as the iron man. We will follow this with a persuasive letter from the child character to the villagers.
To finish our English journey this term, we will read the poem Instructions by Neil Gaiman, and imitate the style of a fantasy poem using our own
In Maths, we will continue work on Fractions, progress to Decimals, Time and Shape, Space and Measure.
In music, we will listen to and respond, then learn the parts of Lean on Me by Bill Withers.

The login can be found in your child's homework book.
Maths will be supported in class and for homework with Doodle Maths. Please also help your child to learn his/her times tables by regularly visiting Times Tables Rockstars. Login details for both of these sites can be found in your child's homework book.
Homework is set on a Friday and is due in on the following Thursday. Homework will usually consist of spellings to be done in the homework book and a Maths task online - either TT Rockstars or Doodle Maths. We expect the homework to be completed in the homework books and to be of the standard completed in school.
