Have a look at the fun we have been up to in Year 1!
Last week, during all the snow we had a very unexpected visit! The children found two eggs in the key stage one playground. After much discussion and research the children came to the conclusion that they must be Adelie penguin eggs. The children were so excited and decided to send them back to the research station in Antarctica. They were absolutely delighted to receive a response confirming the breed of penguin and also that they had arrived safely.
Homework is an extremely valuable addition to your child's learning. We ask that you complete the following homework activities each week with your child to maximise their progress and learning potential in Year 1.
Read 4 times each week. You can use the reading book your child brings home or can access Bug Club using the details stuck in the front of your child's reading diary.
We are excited to be following the 'Supersonic Phonic Friends' scheme. Each week you will receive a sheet that includes a recap of the sounds focussed on in class and revision activities to be completed at home.
Our current PE days are Monday and Thursday, but kit may be needed at other times so please make sure you always have a PE kit in school. Please make sure hair is tied back and earrings are removed in advance.
The children are expected to read at least 4 times a week at home. Please complete their reading diary when they have done this. Each read at home will contribute to their reading challenge.
Each term we will send home a list of words for the children to focus on. These will be in their spelling journals and consist of both non-compliant words and spelling patterns. We expect the children to work on these at home as well as in school.
Here are some good resources to help with fluency. We expect the children to be focusing initially on adding and subtracting to ten before moving onto working within twenty.
