This week is Tongan Language Week.
Let's watch this video to learn a few phrases.
What makes a great narrative? What is Level Three writing? Keep these two focus questions in mind.
Today you will complete a prewriting 'Get the Picture' activity and then you will plan your narrative with Mrs Donnelly, so that you are ready to start writing this text tomorrow.
There are paper copies for you to complete these and glue them into your book (Get the Picture - Exploring Language Book, Narrative Planning - Writing Book), or you can click on the button to make a copy if you are completing this on your chromebook. [Remember to rename and move to your WRITING folder]
GET THE PICTURE - Explore the image by answering your chosen questions. Share your thinking with a buddy. Now choose one of your questions and responses to share back to the class.
PLANNING TIME - Plan your narrative. Think about the information that you will need to include to help organise yourself to write a great narrative.
Today the focus of our Reading session will be on Reading and Critiquing examples of Explanation Texts.
Firstly let's reread the, 'How were mummies made?' exemplar. Let's critique it - what is good about it? What could they do to make it better than before?
Now read the two Learning Asset Explanation texts. Consider the focus questions and critique the texts.
Your group can choose to write down your thinking around the text, or you can make a group Screencastify recording where you share your critique of the text.
Now that you have critiqued these texts, go back to your own Learning Asset Explanation.
Based on what we have talked about and what you have discovered, how can you shift your Learning Asset Explanation to Level 3 or beyond? How can you make it a better than before text?
Choose a text that you can read and enjoy for the next 10 minutes.
What do you notice about yourself as a reader during this time? How is your reading stamina?
One of the ideas that came out of our Term Three, 'How do we get our message across?' learning was the MKid Voice Hui concept.
Today we will have our first Room 4 MKid Voice Hui as Mr Sadler would like some feedback around the BIg Side.
It is important that we understand that our MKid Voice Hui are about starting a conversation, and that our ideas/suggestions won't necessarily be actioned, but will definitely be considered in the decision making process.
It is also important to remember that while some of the ideas/actions may not have a direct impact on us (as Year Six MKids), that your voice can help to ensure that Mangapapa is a place that all our future MKids can enjoy.
Reflect on your journey across your time at Mangapapa. What are the things that you have added to your kete or korowai along the way?
To help us with our calendar art planning, let's brainstorm some images or keywords that reflect your journey.
Now let's get planning our artwork. You will need a whiteboard and whiteboard pen and your creativity!
Time to finish the day with our novel. So sit back and listen in to 'Grizzly Trap'.
What great language are you hearing? How is the author sharing their message?

First you need to complete your planning from Monday.

Yesterday you explored an image and did some thinking around this. Then you planned your narrative.
WRITING WARM UP: Writing 'Better than Before' Sentences. Choose one of the sentences and write a Level 3+ Better than before sentence that could be used instead on a post it. Remember to write your name.
Could you use this sentence in your writing today? Did you see an idea that you can borrow for your writing? Now let's get started with our Narrative Writing.
Team Tahi - Independent Literacy Activities and then you will swap to Guided Reading .
Team Rua - Guided Reading first and then you will swap to Independent Literacy Activities.
UPDATE: As we decided to keep going with our Narrative writing we didn't do these independent Literacy activities today
BUDDY READING - Both you and your buddy will need to choose a text.
Follow the instructions on your Reading Tutor card and your retelling strip.
Remember to give your buddy some feedback - two stars (two things they did well) and a wish (one suggestion for how they could be better than before).
Make a copy, name it and move this to your WRITING folder. Then complete the Word of the Week activities.
Have you finished your Basic Scratch game from Thursday's session? If not, then please use this time to do so.
Have you posted it to your blog using the sentence stems below? If not, then please complete this.
If you have done both of these things then visit your blog and respond to any questions/comments that you might have received and then comment on the blogs of other people in your group.
Watch the video clip and learn how to count in Tongan, or scroll back to the top of the page and try out some of the Tongan Language week phrases.
