Students will primarily interact with My Student Dashboard, however have the class website there as a reference tool, and guaranteed source of visibility. For example, by googling the school and then following the link to their subject teacher they should always be able to find their work. This is also how other staff or whanau will have that visibility.
The class website will need to initially be created and updated, however after that it will generally be left alone as it will auto update via the embedded workspaces and calendar. Therefore on a daily/ weekly basis it is not part of a teachers workflow or workload.
Hapara's workspaces is the preferred method of delivering content to students.
Teachers provide learning materials and internal assessments via Hapara's Workspace.
In turn students will access that learning, and submit those assessments through My Student Dashboard.
Using Workspace and My Student Dashboard means that individual docs and resources will not need to be shared or emailed, as workspaces does this already.
The Class Website acts as a window into whats happening in the classroom. It provides visibility for whanau as well as other staff in the school including SMT, mentor teachers, and relievers.
It also acts as a one stop shop for students if they are unsure of when or what they need to be doing. It should have contact details, as well links to the calendar, and any online lessons or links.
You do not need to update both the class site and work space, as simply embedding your workspaces into the class site means that will update automatically.
The calendar is also there to provide visibility. All though upcoming due dates and deadline are visible to students through My Student Dashboard, it does not necessarily provide visibility over what will be taught in class that day/week.
By having class periods labelled by what topic or unit is being focussed on in that session, then students who are absent can see what was done that day and view that topic/unit on the relevant workspace.
You do not need to link individual docs or resources to the calendar event, as these are accessible on the workspace.
It also provides visibility to other staff such as SMT, Mentor teachers, and relievers. Which can be useful for helping students with what they need to be doing.
Whanau should also be able to see what topic or unit that students are working on at any given time.
