Purpose:

The main purpose for the calendar is to provide visibility. All though upcoming due dates and deadline are visible to students through My Student Dashboard, it does not necessarily provide visibility over what will be taught in class that day/week.

It also allows for visibility for other staff and whanau, to find out what students are working on in class that day. For example: Mentor teachers or SMT that are helping or supporting a student should be able to connect with what unit/ topic is being taught that day in class via the calendar. They can then locate that learning on the relevant workspace via the Class Site.

Requirements and Expectations:

The up-to-date class calendar must be available on the Class Site.

The calendar should inform the student about what they are learning on that day in class. i.e. it should show which unit/topic/AS that they are currently working on, this will tell them which workspace they need to access.

You do not need to link individual work documents on the calendar, as these will be available through the workspace. Instead you can simply link the unit page on your class website.

managing your calendars:

Through Hāpara, each of your classes will generate a new calendar each year, inside of Google Calendar . Students in that class will be able to see that calendar in their Google Calendar.

Just as the teacher will end up with a calendar for each class, students will also have a calendar for each class (from each teacher).

You will need to edit the correct calendar for the corresponding class. Students will only see the changes you make to that class calendar that they are also attached to.

Practically it means that if you have 5 different classes. You will need to keep 5 different class calendars updated (even though inside of Google Calendar it will resemble a single weekly timetable.

Example teacher Google Calendar

Example student Google Calendar

Teacher and student both see [ 2-205 Eng ] because the student is in that teachers class.

The student will see anything that the teacher adds to the calendar [ 2-205 Eng ], but not the teachers other class calendars.
