The intention of this resource is to clarify how the Digital Learning Programmes at Tāmaki College work together to enhance student learning.

Where to start?

At Tāmaki College we primarily use Google Apps. This means if you are traditionally a Microsoft user, you will need to become familiar with the Google products. In particular Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets and Google Sites.

Your Tāmaki College email address is your Google Account with access to all these apps, and the account you should use for all school content.

i.e. *********@tamaki.ac.nz

Alongside the use of the Google Apps Tāmaki College uses Hāpara. Hapara is a classroom management software, that allows students and teachers to interact via the Google Apps efficiently and effectively.

Using both Google Apps and Hāpara together is the core framework for digital learning at Tāmaki College.

Workflow

Google Apps

The majority of the resources and work that the teacher will assign can be created and shared via the Google Apps. Both students and teachers can view and edit these live.

Hāpara Workspaces and My Student Dashboard

Hāpara Workspaces makes it easier to share and receive the resources with the students. It allows you to assign work to classes without the need for email addresses. It happens automatically and is displayed logically for both teachers and students. It provides access to the work outside of class times.

Class Site

The Class Site is a necessary and required aspect of teaching at Tāmaki College.

It acts as the central point for all your content and info. It is the best way for students, staff, and whanau to connect with you and the learning happening in your classes.

It provides visibility and access to the learning outside of class and school day.

Fortunately, it is not necessary to update or work on the site often as both your calendar and your Hāpara Workspaces can be embedded. This means your site will update automatically.

Google Calendar

Through Hāpara each of your classes will generate a new calendar each year, inside of Google Calendar. Students in that class will be able to see that calendar in their Google Calendar.

Just as the teacher will end up with a calendar for each class, students will also have a calendar for each class (from each teacher).

Visually it looks like one calendar with different colours for each different subject, however it going to be made up of different calendars from each class. Visually it will resemble a timetable.

The purpose of the calendar is to resemble a timetable, and to show what will be taught in that session.
