In 2023, Google announced that it's winding down its whiteboarding tool, Jamboard, in 2024. By October 2024, all boards will be "view only" and no new boards can be created and by the end of the year, Jamboard and all the files will be deleted.
MAES is now switching to FigJam for its whiteboarding needs. FigJam is a part of Figma; it is not a part of Google Workspace but some integration has been allowed like being able to access FigJam from within Google Meet or Google Calendar.
Please start converting your Jamboard files into FigJam if you want to still be able to use them in the future. If you just want to keep a record of a Jamboard file (for example, if it was used as a student assessment) save them as a PDF in your Google Drive. We can't recover your Jamboard files once Google has deleted them.
FigJam is free for educators but you will need to complete a form and submit some documents and links to prove that you are one.
Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to apply for an education account. You need to use your Google (@manadulted.ac.uk) account to sign up and you will need the following on hand:
1. MAES website - https://manadulted.ac.uk/
2. a downloaded scheme of work (any that you're using will do) which you will need to upload later on
3. the URL of any Google Classroom where you're a teacher
Once you have them ready, you can now start your application here.
If you already have a FigJam account but not a verified education status, please start here.
Any questions, please email maes.helpdesk@man-adulted.ac.uk
IMPORTANT! If you have previously created a Figma account (for Figjam) with your old man-adulted email, you will need to follow this guide to reset your Figma account password and changing your email address.
Here's a recording of our first ever FigJam training session this May 2024.
You can view the FigJam board used in the training session. If you want to make your own copy of that FigJam template, you can click here.
In the next few weeks, we will be offering more sessions in varying levels and scope (The Essentials, Beyond the Basics, When to Use FigJam in the Classroom) so don't worry if you have missed this one.
Figjam is a powerful collaboration tool that can replace Jamboard when it goes away in September. We really want to help you make a smooth transition so we're back again with another training session - this time, a slow and easy introduction called Figjam Essentials.
In this session, we'll focus on:
Mirroring Your Jamboard Workflow: We'll show you how to use Figjam equivalents of all your favorite Jamboard tools (sticky notes, drawing, etc.).
No Pressure, Just the Basics: Forget fancy features, this session is all about knowing the essentials you need to transition from Jamboard.
Save your Jams: Don't lose those jams you've worked so hard on, import them into Figjams and use them again and again.
FigJam now includes an easy option to share FigJams with your students through Google Classroom.
Simply open the FigJam file you want to share and click on the "Share" button in the top right corner.
Then choose "Share to Google Classroom" from the sharing window.
Next choose if you want to make a copy for each student, or let them collaborate together on the file.
Finally choose the class you want to share to, and create your assignment as normal.
