Top 10 Travel Trends of 2022

January 13, 2022

After much enjoyable research, I'm here to report on the top 10 travel trends in 2022 and I’m really excited about this year’s! What I noticed most of all during my research for this article is that travelers are not taking their precious travel time for granted anymore. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s to seize the moment and tackle that bucket list with the people you love.

Slow Travel - I'm really committing to some slow travel this year along with many of my clients.

Portugal - Do you know how many places in Portugal are named Miranda?! Like a lot so I'm all in on this trend!

Wellness Travel - This segment of the travel industry has been slowly growing for years but is experiencing a huge boom. Thankfully everyone seems to be more mindful of the importance of their health these days.

Mexico - It's a perennial favorite, but lately people are checking out the artistic side of Mexico, not just Cancun and Cabo.

Workaction - A lot of us can work from anywhere and that has led to huge explosion of Millennials and Gen Z's traveling more and working from wherever they land. I recommend finding a hub city to live and work that has a good community and transportation to other nearby travel destinations for short trips.

Big Splurges - A lot of travelers have a bit extra in the vacation kitty or unused credits from canceled trips so the industry is seeing some big splurges on luxury travel experiences such as private yacht rentals, helicopters, penthouse views, private chefs and wow-factor adventures.

Checking Off the Bucket List - We all realized in 2020 that we couldn't keep putting off those bucket list trips. Now we're seeing travelers tackling the trips they've been planning for years.

Switzerland - Apparently the mountains are calling! Switzerland has so much to offer year-round and travelers are ready to explore it and experience the good life that the Swiss are famous for enjoying.

Italy - Naples, Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Rome, Umbria, Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Florence, Venice, Rome - travelers are searching ALL the Italian cities.

England, Scotland & Ireland - Maybe it’s all the Downtown we were binging or the Bridgerton Effect, but travelers are booking the UK like crazy! I love that lots of people are seeking out the smaller villages and hamlets to explore.

Just to mention some domestic options , the Pacific Northwest, Arizona, Joshua Tree and as always, Orlando are wildly popular again this year, just like in 2021.

Whether it’s domestic, international, slow or adventure travel, using a qualified travel advisor is most DEFINITELY trending again this year. With the constant changes to navigate on top of everything else, a trusted travel advisor is more important than ever.
