Faculty Borrowing Privileges
Books: Faculty receive full-semester loans for materials from both the USM and the UMaine Orono collections. Your faculty ID card serves as your library card.
URSUS Catalog: The online catalog includes the University of Maine System Libraries, the Maine State Library, and the Maine Law and Legislative Library, as part of MaineCat.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL): Materials not available within the system can be searched via WorldCat, and free interlibrary loan requests can be submitted.
Articles & Databases: The library provides faculty with off-campus access to over 200 databases through the University Libraries, the University of Maine System, and the State of Maine. Use your name and red ID number (on your faculty ID) to log in.
Electronic Reserves: Instructions for placing electronic reserves can be found at usm.maine.edu/library/reserves.
Specialized Collections
Special Collections: Includes rare books, manuscripts, the University Archives, and the Jean Byers Sampson Center for Diversity in Maine, which documents African-American, Jewish, and LGBTQ+ communities in Maine. Â Call (207) 780-4275 for more information.
Osher Map Library (OML) & Smith Center for Cartographic Education: Houses rare maps, atlases, and globes dating back to 1475, along with exhibitions and digitized materials.
