The teacher is a reflective practitioner who uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (students, families, and other professionals in the learning community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Meeting this standard means that the teacher can reflect on their teaching practice to ensure that it is continuously reflecting on their practice and how their teaching practices affect their students, families, and other professionals in the learning community.
9 (b) Engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning experiences aligned with his/her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and system.
Description
These are certificates I received from completing Vector trainings through MSAD 49. There was a training to inform me and other staff members of FERPA: Confidentiality of Records, how to make schools safe and inclusive for Transgender Students, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention, Making schools safe and inclusive for LGBTQ+ students, and the substitute teaching handbook review.
Rationale
This artifact is an example of how I met this indicator and standard. I completed Vector training for the district of MSAD 49 while student teaching. This engaged me in meaningful thinking and appropriate professional learning experiences by informing me of new topics that are being brought up in the teaching community. I am showing my ability to further my professional understanding of how to handle situations that are somewhat newly present in today’s world and how to adjust my teaching to the way the world is running. I watched a series of videos regarding diverse and inclusive topics regarding students and completed assessments for all of them receiving an 80% or higher. This has aligned with my own needs of the learners because it is getting me familiar with what is present and important in their stage of life developmentally. New knowledge is constantly introducing itself and I made sure to stay on top of it through these training videos and assessments. The school district and system are working hard to make us politically aware and correct for this day in age and this was accomplished through the scores of my tests, and the information presented that taught me new ways of approaching diverse conversations.
9 (L) Takes responsibility for student learning and uses ongoing analysis and reflection to improve planning and practice.
Description
The principal of Fairfield Primary School is also the principal of Albion Elementary School. I reached out to her and asked if she was availible to observe me teach a lesson in my classroom and give me feedback. She was able to make it work and observed me creating puppets with the students and informing them all about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. After the observation she rep, orted feedback to me through a google doc write up as well as a verbal discussion about the lesson and how it went.
Rationale
This artifact is an example of how I met this indicator and standard. For this artifact, I requested that the principal come and observe one of my lessons and provide feedback on my teaching. When planning this observation I worked to ensure that the students were put in a lesson where their learning was a priority and not planning the observation around my strengths as a teacher. I chose to be observed during the morning meeting portion of the day. This is where I engage students in different questions to prepare them for the day. The observation was completed as well as a rubric that is a combination of Marshall's Theory and MSAD 49’s adjustments to make it fit the needs of this district and students. I was provided by the Principal a copy of this after my observation was complete of things I accomplished as well as areas that need more attention. Here I was able to reflect as a teacher and use this feedback to improve my planning and practice for the future. I was given written feedback which I will use throughout my teaching to refer back to.
