The teacher understands how students learn and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences
Meeting this standard and this indicator means that the teacher understands how students learn and develop in different ways. The teacher can detect patterns in students' development and learning with each student in all areas including cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas. They can use this information to design and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences that challenge students.
1(f) Identifies readiness for learning and understands how development in any one area may affect performance in others
Description
This artifact is a lesson plan on changing speed. I created this artifact to be implemented in my Teacher Work Sample.
Rationale
This lesson is an example of how I met this standard and indicator because I am now the third day into this lesson so the students have started to build off knowledge from each lesson to continue to teach new things. They first started with objects in motion, then moved to pushing and pulling and how that's a way of motion. Yesterday they worked on changing directions using force, and today they worked on changing speed. I started by reviewing all these topics and then saying how when you change speed, the force you use changes. I explained how the objects are in motion and you have to push and pull the object for them to change speeds using different forces. This was showing how I can pull from past development to affect performance in another.
1(j) Takes responsibility for promoting the learner’s growth and development.
Description
This artifact is a write-up decomposing an individualized education program (IEP). I created this write-up for easy access to the students information and notes to look back too when needed.
Rationale
This IEP Write up is a good example of standard one and indicator 1(j). This write-up is specifically working with making sure that students are getting the most out of school and ensuring learner growth is promoted. This is done by the teacher advocating for the students needs through a referral and then setting up an IEP meeting to discuss how to get the student to grow in the classroom. This is very important for a student's development due to the fact that their development will be delayed in and out of the classroom if they do not have access to the support needed to succeed. I was responsible for making sure that this student had information, test scores, and notes on their progress so far in the classroom to provide during the meeting. After the results of the meeting were concluded it is now my responsibility as the teacher to make sure that those needs and agreements are being met. This is why I created a write up about the meeting so I can quickly review what was agreed upon and follow it.
