The teacher works with learners to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, encouraging positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.
Meeting this standard means that the teacher works with students to make sure that the environment is created where all students are supported as individuals but are also able to work in a collaborative environment that encourages positive social interactions, active engagement in learning as well as self-motivation.
3 (k) Knows how to collaborate with learners to establish and monitor elements of a safe and productive learning environment including norms, expectations, routines, and organizational structures.
Description
This artifact is classroom rules placed around the room for reminders directed towards the students of the expectations that are held in the classroom.
Rationale
This indicator is met by the different classroom rules I have hanging up around the classroom. These are serving as a way to give students non verbal reminders of what their expectations are while in the classroom, on the rug, and while working on assignments. I worked with my mentor, teacher, and the students to develop a list of classroom rules that all the students signed and agreed to follow on the first day of school. Due to the collaboration with the students on the expectations and rules, as well as where the expectations are placed in the classroom, the students are able to easily monitor their own expectations and if they are following what they need to do. I allowed the students to collaborate as well since this is also their classroom and they deserve a right to a voice. By doing that the students and I have created an environment that supports individual and collaborative learning. These allow me to monitor the classroom and have certain targets to look back on when redirecting a child who may not be following the guidelines. This also gives me an opportunity to use positive praise by referring back to the targets in a way that rewards students for sitting at the rug and doing their job in the classroom. I recently created the kindness tree due to lack of kindthe ness in the classroom and me feeling that it was interfering with our organization, and structure. So I implemented the tree where the students can color in their hearts when the teacher spots them doing something kind. With the kindness tree I am also adding in self motivation, the goal is to see how many trees the students can fill from now until Christmas. This is setting a goal that is self regulated, and collaborating with their peers to work on social interactions.
3 (r) Is a thoughtful and responsive listener and observer.
Description
This artifact was an observation taken of me during a lesson activity by my observer for my third formal observation.
Rationale
The artifact below was gathered from my implementation from a lesson for my third formal iObservation. This is the iObservation that was recorded of me while teaching my activity. This will allow me to think back and reflect on the lesson I just implemented. There are check boxes that say things I accomplished but there are some that are not checked. Some are not checked because it was not relevant or present in this lesson plan. Others not being checked is an opportunity for me to reflect and think back on my teaching and what I could have done differently as an educator. I also was given written notes that were individualized to me as a teacher. I will use these notes and check boxes to think back on to show that I am listening to the feedback given to me and I am implementing it, as well as using it as a goal to help me branch out and try new things that I may not have had exposure to before. As for becoming an observer I am constantly working to observe my students and their progress as well as behavior. This includes me scanning the room during morning meetings and group discussions at the rug. I walk around the tables during independent work and make it a point to stop and discuss with each table, and if possible each student to observe their understanding and push for further learning or give support where needed.
