Iconography

How to Use ASU Icons

Icons are used to visually indicate an idea or action in one symbol. As the UCSF Branding website says, "Iconography can help simplify complex ideas or translate messages quickly." While icons are not logos, it is important that they all follow the same branding guidelines. We want stakeholders to identify our icons as ASU icons just by looking at them.

Guidelines for ASU icons

  • Certain icons have been premade and are the only icons to be used for their specific function. For example, when using an email icon, we ask that you use the premade email icon (downloads are available on this page), rather than making a new one.

  • If you would like to use an icon that hasn't been premade, either reach out to the ASU Team Chat and we will help get you one, or look through the shared adobe stock library for stock icons that we have already licensed. You can then download the stock icons and adjust the look and feel.

    • For instructions on how to adjust the colors of a vector image in Adobe Illustrator, go to Stock Graphics.

  • Look and Feel: Our icons use UMA brand colors and have a grey circle in the background.

  • It is typically helpful for sizing for icons to have padding, or a white box, around them. This allows you to keep icons the same size relative to each other. If you'd like help getting an icon with padding, reach out to the ASU Team Chat.
