During the summer vacation of 2019, the "2019 International PBL Industrial Workshop" was organized cooperatively with Osaka Institute of Technology in Japan and Kookmin University in Korea. Students and faculties come from our Taipei Tech, Kookmin University in Korea, and Osaka Institute of Technology composed mixed teams to address industrial topics proposed by three enterprises: Osaka Gas and Daiwa House Group from Japan, and Merck from Korea. The workshops included brainstorming solutions, prototyping, and practical development for the topic questions proposed by the enterprises.
This initiative was mainly led by professors from the Engineering in System Design and Robotics departments of Osaka Institute of Technology, collaborating with Osaka Gas, Daiwa House, and Merck's Korean branch. The project focused on the next 20 years future smart house design for middle-aged to senior elderly, and figuring out the most effective interior design model for future smart homes, and creating an artificial intelligence applied chemistry and biology laboratory.
The schedule included field research at Osaka Institute of Technology on July 1st and flew to Korean Kookmin University for further discussions and practical work from July 18th to August 4th, then consequently returned to National Taipei University of Technology on August 4th, followed by a presentation of the outcomes. Divided into three teams, each addressing one of the three aforementioned topics, students from Osaka Institute of Technology, Korean Kookmin University, and National Taipei University of Technology collaborated. The goal was to discipline English communication skills, foster cooperation with international enterprises, and enhance teamwork abilities through the design and implementation of "Future Smart Biology," "Chemistry Laboratory," and "Future Smart Home" projects.
Regarding the question proposed by Osaka Gas.
Hello House
According to the present challenges, creating a comfortable, safe, and joyful living environment within smart home facilities, students integrate technologies like IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence). With technological assistance, they aimed to enhance the daily care and living conditions for elders. Additionally, they expect to enhance energy consumption efficiency for home using fuel cell technology, envisioning a scenario where energy needs are entirely supplied by fuel cells and solar panels.
Regarding the question proposed by Daiwa House.
Hexagon House
The students are exploring the concept of modularization within different perspectives of a future smart home and the realization of flexible living spaces. The idea allows residents to select and purchase modular components for spaces like the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, etc., enabling them to assemble these modules at home. This approach would provide the opportunity for residences to choose their preferred interior design and configuration from the market.
Regarding the question proposed by Merck.
Future Lab
The construction model for future biological or chemical laboratories involves cloud computing and big databases, combined with Google Glass, to enhance safety and user-friendliness experience within these labs. This direction aims to deepen the safety and user-friendliness prospects within future biological and chemical laboratories.
