In mid-September, the PBL workshop concluded, and the outcomes will be exhibited at National Taipei University of Technology, Osaka Institute of Technology, Korean Kookmin University, and two enterprises.
During July to mid-September of 2018, our school conducted an International PBL Workshop with Osaka Institute of Technology in Japan and Korean Kookmin University collaboration. Our students traveled separately to Japan and Korea to comprehend and initially discuss the identified issues. Finally, they returned to Taiwan to assemble the prototypes. This International Industrial PBL Workshop took for two months.
Initially, head by Robotics and Design Center's Director, Osaka Institute of Technology, Professor Kenji Matsui, instructed three universities' students in the "Design Thinking". This involved field research around Kyoto area, where students and faculties investigated the daily lives and experiences of farmers with current agricultural machinery. Based on students defined of agricultural machinery and proceeded to analyze problems, they designed and created a mockup of an automatic tracking agricultural machine during their stay at Osaka Institute of Technology.
Furthermore, they visited the production line of Yanmar's factory and museum to understand the enterprise's developmental background and unique features. Two weeks later, they continued the PBL workshop at Kookmin University in Korea before moving back to National Taipei University of Technology for final model production and examination in early August.
The workshop was comprised of two groups: one was Yanmar's proposed topic "Autonomous Tracking Agricultural Vehicles" focusing on the concept of "Modern Cow" for idea stimulation, model production, assembly, and rigorous experiment to meet industry standards. The aim was to build a capable of assisting elderly farmers robot in the fields, aligning with No.9 of SDGs - Sustainable Industry and Infrastructure.
The other team prompted the concept of Daiwa House's future housing, focused on designing for the future generations housing tendency. They explored sustainable concepts in housing. The closing ceremony was held on August 24th, the R&D Manager of Yanmar, Mr. Hideaki Aoki, visiting National Taipei University of Technology in person. Also, executives of Daiwa House and Korean Kookmin University's professors remotly joined the final presentation of the workshop's outcomes.
