On Friday, October 23, 2026, Galileo held its first Enrichment Day in several years. The PBIS team, which is responsible for organizing the school’s Advisory Days, sponsored the event. Several weeks before the big day, teachers were asked to sign up for a skill or topic that they would like to share with students.
The result was a list of fourteen unique classes that students could choose from. The topics ranged from energetic classes, such as Tik Tok Line Dancing, Just Dance, and a weightlifting class called “Olympic Lifting - The Snatch”, to classes that piqued intellectual curiosity, including topics such as presidential assassinations, the Sputnik crisis, weird history, and solving logic grid problems. Among the choices were also meditation, real estate investing, open mic poetry, and karaoke.
Many students had a lot to say about their experiences, and most were quite pleased to spend the hour learning about a topic of their choice. Senior Madison Hall signed up for karaoke, and though she was disappointed that there was not enough time for her to sing, she did enjoy hearing others. “Mrs. Jenkins McKane can sing!” She said, “I didn’t know much about her, so it was nice to learn that about her. I was shocked when I heard her.”
Junior Naureen Rashid chose Mr. Horwath’s “Weird Myths and Histories” class. “[Mr. Horwath] prepared a slideshow of various weird facts and made us guess which ones were real. It was pretty interesting, actually.”
Senior Nathanael Smith attended Mr. Carter’s Real Estate class and found it interesting because “he made it as engaging as his topic would allow.” In fact, Smith enjoyed the experience so much that he suggests that Galileo hold enrichment classes every two weeks.
Senior Camryn Snead attended Mr. Smith’s “presidential assisanation’s” class. Snead explained that “It was nice to learn in depth about the assassinations and about facts or points that weren't widely known.” Snead suggested that Galileo should hold enrichment classes every month or two because she would like to learn about different topics once in a while. She also recommended that there should be classes about the science lab and also classes that go more in depth about musicians, and painting.
All of the students surveyed suggested that Galileo should continue offering the enrichment classes and as often as possible. The students have great recommendations for additional classes such as: career based classes, food classes, and arts and crafts classes.
