Dayamudra's Past Courses
An 8- week summer class to practice effective communication in academic situations through the use of individual and group presentations, oral reports and summaries, debates, and discussions, as well as pronunciation practice.
3 6-week synchronous online class focused on academic writing, editing, and proofreading skills and strategies, with a number of individual and collaborative assignments to support English language mastery.
An abridged course offering participation in discussions on career, social, and academic topics; comprehension of adapted and some authentic narrative and informational texts; development of clearly organized paragraphs.
Fall 2022: ESL 1-4 Remote
Beginning level English skills is for students with varying English-language proficiencies for school, work and basic needs. Development of listening, speaking, and reading skills. Production of sentences and brief paragraphs.
As a fully remote class, we met three evenings every week for Livestream sessions.
Spring 2022: ESL Reading
In our ESL Reading class we practiced understanding and analyzing authentic texts in English.
As a fully remote class, we met two afternoons every week for Livestream sessions.
Sum 22: ESL Practical Writing
In ESL 67 we practiced interpreting documents, professional and academic applications and other written instructions, and composing a variety of writings, including those required to apply for admissions, scholarships, internships and employment opportunities, to take advantage of opportunities and funding, and to problem solve and engage effectively in civic life.
Summer 2021: ESL 186
My Summer 2021 186 class was an intensive 8-week advanced composition course offering training and practice in advanced academic reading and writing, with emphasis on language structure and vocabulary development for non-native speakers of English.
As a remote class, we met four times a week for Livestream sessions plus Fridays as independent study days. Attendance in the Livestream sessions was required.
Students took notes, participated in whole class discussions and worked in break-out rooms during our Livestreams.
The textbooks for this course were: “Grammar & Beyond Level 4 Student's Book (with Wkbk & Access)” Author: Bunting ISBN: 978-1-107-69969-4 Publisher: Cambridge University Press and “Gulp” Author: Mary Roach ISBN: 978-0-393-34874-3.
At the end of the 8-week course, students took a final exam, presented a group project and designed a digital portfolio to demonstrate mastery of everything learned.
Completion of 15 hours in CLAD was also required.
Fall 2021: ESL Courses
Fall 2021 I taught ESL 122, as well as 3 Non-Credit courses: ESLN 5-8 and two levels of Non-Credit Reading. All classed meet remotely.
In ESL 122 we collaborate on oral communication activities and oral presentations with low-intermediate level vocabulary and grammatical structures.
Non-Credit courses have Livestream session and also have optional assignments for extra practice posted on Canvas. The Reading classes both meet two afternoons a week and the Level 5-8 class meets 4 nights a week.

ESL 79

At the end of the 18-week course, students made a final presentation and designed a digital portfolio to demonstrate mastery of everything learned.
ESL 122
This Spring 2021 122 course offered practice in pre-academic listening and speaking skills and strategies.
In ESL 122 we collaborate on oral communication activities and oral presentations with low-intermediate level vocabulary and grammatical structures.
As a remote class, we meet twice every week for Livestream sessions. Attendance in these sessions is required.
Students make individual and group presentations and various assignments during our Livestream sessions.
The textbook for this course is "North Star 2" 5th edition by Laurie Frazier (ISBN: 978-0-13-522696-4).
At the end of the 18-week course, Students make a final presentation and design a digital portfolio to demonstrate mastery of everything you have learned.

ESL 75 Online
In ESL 75 we focused on academic writing, editing, and proofreading skills and strategies, with a number of individual and collaborative assignments to support mastery. As a fully online class, we practiced writing clear, coherent paragraphs every week. There was also vocabulary and grammar activities and quizzes to support mastery of the English language and students kept a Grammar Journal.
There was no textbook for this course. All materials were accessed on-line. At the end of the 6-week course, students designed a digital portfolio as a final project to demonstrate mastery of everything learned.
ESL 182
ESL 182 was a remote class, with both asynchronous and Livestream components. This course, taught in Fall 2020, offered training and practice in intermediate reading and writing, with an emphasis on language structure and vocabulary development for non-native speakers of English. We practiced reading passages from informational and literary texts to support written work. We practiced a variety of writing tasks. Intermediate language skills were integrated on the basis of academic tasks and content.
ESLF Level 3-4 L/S
This was a high beginning speaking and listening focus course. The course provided training in comprehension of important points and details in spoken English and basic conversations on a variety of topics.
Upon completion of this course, a student are able to:
Identify main ideas and supporting details in spoken texts at a high beginning level in a variety of contexts.
Use high beginning structures and word choice in basic oral communication.
