HOW THIS COURSE WORKS

About Our Class

  • ESL Level 6 is an 16-week, fully online course.

  • We do not meet regularly on Zoom.

  • Everything you need for this class is on Canvas.

  • Class starts on Monday, August 29, 2022.

  • Once a month, on the last Friday of the month, from 11am - 11:45am, we meet in our Zoom Room link for an optional Livestream session.

  • This link is posted on Canvas. If you cannot make it, it's ok!

The Book for Our Class

  • We will be doing a variety of activities in Canvas.

  • Everything that you need is there.

  • Good news! You do not need to buy a book!

This is a CCSF guide to help meet students' basic needs by connecting with resources and services.

And here are support people at CCSF to join you in doing your very best work:

COMMUNICATION PLAN

I post a weekly announcement with a vide of the week every Sunday morning and a follow-up announcement on Fridays. I also monitor the Discussion Forums and give you individualized feedback on your assignments.

I respond to student emails within 24 hours,Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm, on weekends in 48 hours.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe all learners should have access to Communicative English as a means of creatively expressing themselves in a variety of situations, making deep connections across global cultures and having limitless access to academic and economic opportunity.

MY COMMITMENT TO YOU

  • This is not an easy time to be a student. The stress of the pandemic, the racial injustices, and political unrest in our country impacts all of our lives. This makes it difficult to learn, manage our time, and juggle our many responsibilities.

  • Please know that I am committed to creating and supporting you in a safe and respectful learning environment.

  • I am constantly growing and learning as an educator, and I welcome your feedback. We are better together.

OUR INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

As your Instructor, I understand that students represent a rich diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

City College of San Francisco is committed to providing an atmosphere for learning that respects diversity.

While working together to build this community I request that we all abide by the following parameters:

  • Share our unique experiences, values and beliefs.

  • Have patience and a sense of humor with technology. Expect problems. (It's technology!)

  • Value classmates' opinions and communicate in a respectful manner.

  • Be open to the views of others.

  • Honor the uniqueness of your classmates. Appreciate the opportunity that we have to learn from each other in this community.

  • In this learning space, students of all cultures, races, ethnicities, religions, language backgrounds, and sexual orientations are welcome. Together we create a supportive, fun, and encouraging environment.

If, at any time, you feel that you have been disrespected by a member of our community, you are encouraged to bring your concern directly and immediately to me. Clearly identify what has occurred with specific explanation and evidence. Your concerns will be addressed promptly and in an individualized manner.

4 TIPS FOR SUCCESS

You will have more opportunities to be successful if you follow these 4 tips:

  1. Share your ideas with your classmates and listen to what your classmates have to say. Everything is communication!

  2. Just try. You don't need to get anything perfect. Your English will improve with regular effort.

  3. Log into our extra Livestream sessions once a month, if you can. Regular practice is key.

  4. We are a learning community! We are here to support, encourage, and inspire one another. Learning is more fun in a group.

WEEKLY TIMETABLE

  • The new week's module will be posted each week, on Sunday, in Canvas.

  • Every week I will give you a Guided Tour Video and post a variety of assignments for you to do online.

  • You will meet your classmates online in our Discussion Forums and some fun videos.

  • You can log into Canvas at anytime during the week to do that week's assignments.

  • If you have any questions during the week, I am here for you! You can always send me a message through the Canvas Inbox. I reply to student messages within 24 hours Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.

  • We can always schedule a 1-on-1 or small group Zoom call when you and your classmates need my assistance.
