Reflection on January’s period of Distance Learning at MYIS
- Overall experience is great, a lot of improvement from last year both PYP and EYP. Less work for parents and more interaction and engagement between the teachers and students.
- Schedule could be improved to facilitate families with two or more children. For example, the older child can start with the lesson first and end little bit after the younger child.
Updates on the specialist program
- The school has been working on the improvement of specialist programs
Specialist teacher’s English language proficiency:
- PYP: Mr.Emanuel will teach Art, Design Technology and PE so the students get to have a native speaker teacher teaching these specialist classes. Thai teachers will be the co-teachers.
- EYP : Head teachers follow to every specialist class so students will have both English and Thai instruction at all classes.
- The school is also in the process of recruiting more specialist teachers from abroad.
- The school is offering English lessons for Thai co-teachers as well.
Improvement of Thai specialist class :
- They are looking to improve the curriculum to be more suitable to PYP: Ms. Mel works closely with Thai teachers: Every Monday afternoon, Ms. Mel teaching PYP to Thai teachers and on Friday afternoon, Ms. Mel plans lessons with Thai teachers for next week.
Book week
- Find volunteered parents to read aloud in class (books can be in any language of their choice)
- Recruit parents to perform in the play for Book week on March 3.

The committee will have one week to look over the PWG Constitution. The document will be signed by Sara Johansson if no objection has been made on November 4.
Determine the agenda structure for future PWG
We decided to have two fixed PWG meetings per school year. First meeting will be held beginning of September and the second meeting beginning of February.
Any additional PWG meetings during the school year will be decided based on the MYIS event calendar.
Due to Covid-19 and measures taken to secure the safety at school, all events with parents’ involvement are cancelled until further notice. Therefore, the PWG meetings will not be scheduled unless necessary. Meanwhile Room parents are encouraged to regularly check in on their class parents and to be responsive to their feedback, concerns, or other matters (positive and negative) and if needed call for a PWG meeting.
Roundtable
PWG fund – What do we spend the money on?
Normally the PWG fund is spent on gifts to the school staff and on arranging events throughout the school year. With no events this year the PWG expects lower expenses. We decided to use the PWG money on all staff including all teachers. Previous years all grades have collected extra money for gifts to their homeroom teachers. No class collection this year.
Khun Nut will create a Treasurer’s report and come back with a proposal on how to spend the money.
