MYIS Students Taking Action

MYIS STAFF TAKING ACTION DURING CAMPUS CLOSURE

Over the time of Campus Closure the local Thai staff at MYIS have been working hard making face masks for the local communities. These masks have been made out of recycled materials and will help stop the spread of CoVID-19 in the more densely populated areas of Nonthaburi, where social distancing is more of a challenge.

WHAT DOES THE IBPYP SAY ABOUT ACTION?

" Through taking individual and collective action, students come to understand the responsibilities associated with being internationally minded and to appreciate the benefits of working with others for a shared purpose. When students see tangible actions that they can choose to take to make a difference, they see themselves as competent, capable and active agents of change (Oxfam 2015)." (IB, 2019)

WHAT CAN YOU DO FROM HOME?

During this time of "staying at home" you might be looking for ideas of activities and "projects" your family, and children, could be doing. Helping your child "take action" and show social responsibility is a great way for them to develop empathy and a greater sense of international mindedness, while having fun at the same time.

Below are some ideas that have been put out there. If you have an projects or causes you are involved in and would like to share it with the MYIS community please email office@magicyears.ac.th

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING AT HOME?

Pictured below is Anya from Grade 3, who decided to take action and display messages of hope at this time of global crisis. Have your children/family been taking action at all? Send photos to the email listed above for us to share with the community!

Check in with seniors in your building or village to see what they need; then run errands, deliver food and medication, etc. You can also adopt a grandparent through this site to connect with seniors in nursing homes who can’t have visitors. Send cards, draw pictures, email, or use social media to keep in touch.

This idea came from YSA: an organization that helps youth engage in service. See their website for more ideas!

Spread Kindness with Chalk

Think of ways that you can use chalk to spread kindness to others. Can you leave inspirational messages or art on the sidewalk with chalk drawings? Brighten someone's day, practice your writing, and leave some joy. Be sure to clean up your chalk pieces afterwards!
